I always like seeing this cars that look more like rockets, designed to do nothing more than just go really, really, really fast.
This is one of the latest of these super-fast vehicles, known as the Venturi Buckeye Bullet. It was built by student engineers, at Ohio State University’s Center for Automotive Research.
It also runs on hydrogen, and it just achieved an average speed of 307.7 mph at a two-run pass at the Bonneville Salt Flats on August 24.
I must admit that I have never been to the Salt Flats before, but if this picture is what they look like, then it looks like a frozen over ocean. I like how the Venturi Buckeye Bullet looks a lot like a shark in the midst of these frozen-over waters.
As for the “car”, for lack of a better word, is about 36 feet long and is only 1.5 inches from the ground. The battery pack in the Venturi Buckeye Bullet V 2.5, is capable of providing “instantaneous power of more than 600 kW. The pack reportedly uses 1,600 cells’.
I believe that the speed record for this particular vehicle is the fastest for any hydrogen-based vehicle. I have heard that the actual land speed record is over 700 miles per hour, with a non-hydrogen vehicle.

I must confess, if I were single, had no kids, and wanted to travel the nation and blog, then this would be my vehicle of choice.
This is the Bufalino, and it is based on the Piaggio APE 50 three-wheeled vehicle. Designer Cornelius Comanns apparently went out of his way to put all sorts of drawers and even a place to sleep. There is even a terrific place to sit with your laptop. It does look a little cramped, though.
Still, any sort of mobile home where all I would need is a regular-sized parking place would be pretty great. All I would need is now is a non-pay toilet and some free Wi-Fi, and I’ve got a brand new life.
Of course, I do like having the life that I do now, and I think I am too old to do that whole Jack Kerouac On The Road thing. However, when I was in my twenties, blogging (as we know it) didn’t exist. I know that shows my age with that particular comment.
For all those who would be interested in driving or living in one of these, I don’t have any information about how to attain one of these vehicles as yet.

This is the HumanCar, and it is a vehicle that does not require gas. Oh yes, I am not making this up.
It is designed by Charles Greenwood, and it made by the user “rowing” to go forward, and it also has a back-up electric battery. Somehow, this allows the driver to reach speeds of up to 60 miles per hour.
There is a video of this after the jump if you want to see this row-powered vehicle in action.
I suppose that we have all wanted the human powered car since we saw Fred use one on The Flintstones. I suppose it was just a matter of time before someone saw that arm power was better than the courtesy of Fred’s two feet. Just be grateful that you don’t have to brake with bare heels. I’m guessing that this is a lot like riding a bike, and I don’t really want to take this up hill.
This vehicle does weigh in at 10,000 pounds. It will be available next year, but the inventor has already received approximately 100 pre-orders already. It also has an all-weather roof, and it apparently has a touch-screen display, as well as a GPS.
So are we looking at an age where the HumanCar floods our streets? Well, perhaps not the freeways. I do like the idea of saving on gas.

The continued trend towards smaller and lighter urban commuter vehicles continued today with Kia showing glimpses of an all-new electric concept car it will reveal at the Paris Show on September 30. Called the ‘POP’, Kia’s three-meter, three-seater was styled at Kia’s Russelsheim design studio where head of design Peter Schreyer has been husbanding the revitalization of the Kia family DNA.

If you’re into windsurfing, you’ll most likely be familiar with the NeilPryde brand. Now the company is taking a step in another direction by diving into the high-performance road bicycle market. Designed in partnership with BMW’s DesignworksUSA, the result is a highly aerodynamic machine developed from extensive wind-tunnel testing and computational fluid dynamic modeling that makes use of complex – and very distinctive – aerofoil cross-sections in the carbon fiber frame and forks, while weighing in at as little as 6.75 kg. Slick in more than just looks!..

Electric bicycle designers are continually coming up with new ways to fold the humble bicycle to make it easier to carry when not being ridden. The latest to catch our eye is the VeloMini, a light-weight folding electric bike featuring a 180 watt brushless hub motor that will transport a person from eight to ten miles at speeds of up to 12 mph (19 km/h). When it’s not being used it folds down to a compact form 18-inches tall that fits into a carrying case roughly the same size as a guitar case…

Sure, there is a trend in cars toward electrical and hydrogen fuels, but this one from Geneco runs on human waste.
Yes, Geneco, a sustainable-energy company owned by Wessex Water, has presented us with a modified Volkswagen Beetle that runs on the compressed methane gas from human waste.
I believe that my source calls this a Dung Beetle, and that seems to be the best joke that I could think of. Hit the jump to find out more information, as well as some bad and obvious jokes.
Here’s how my source says it works:
Biogas is generated when filth from Wessex Water’s sewage works is put into a decomposition container, where oxygen-starved bacteria break it down to produce methane. The methane is then harvested and placed in tanks inside the boot of the Beetle, where it can be used to power the car’s slightly modified engine.
Okay, time for the jokes:
1) This gives new meaning to the expression “crap-car”!
2) All they would have to do is modify the car seats into toilets, and you would never have to stop at a gas station to refuel or use the bathroom. Talk about killing two birds with one stone.
I was hoping to have three jokes here, but I’ve got nothing. Maybe you would like to insert a comment here about this possible new trend in automotive power. Please keep them as tasteful as you can.

With this year’s Tour de France still a recent memory, those of us with an appreciation for fine European racing bicycles may now be experiencing a fresh bout of bike lust. Not all of us, however, have $US6,000 or so to drop on a bicycle, and even if we did… bikes like that are not well-suited to everyday commuting, and are really more bicycle than most of us will ever need for recreational riding. You no doubt still dream of owning a well-bred bike though, so there is something a little more sensible you can do: get yourself an urban commuter, made by one of the celebrated European high-end racing bike manufacturers. Yes, they do exist, and we’re going to tell you about a few. How does a sub-$2,000 Colnago grab you?..

Considering that there will probably be an increase of electric vehicles on the road in the next few years, it’s nice to see that the Evatran Plugless Power Station is already thinking of ways to improve the charging process for these electric cars.
It works with the user installing a shoebox-sized adapter in the car, which works as a wireless power receiver. The car with this apparatus gets near this power station’s parking block, and the charging takes place.
When I say “gets near”, I mean that the car probably has to park directly over this parking block. Only a distance of two inches is allowed, which is dangerously close when dealing with under-the-car devices like this. At least it is better than the in-touch charging devices like the Powermat.
Another bug in this particular process is that the Plugless Power Station only operates at eighty percent capacity, but hopes to achieve ninety at launch.
Clearly, what is going to sell this product is the time it will take to charge an electrical car wirelessly vs. the time it will take to do this with a plug-in wire. If Evatran can do it even ten percent faster, it will be worth the investment from electric car drivers.
The company hopes to launch this by April 2011, with a $800 pricetag.

The upright bicycle riding position offered by the familiar diamond-shape frame has been completely abandoned by designer Nick Foley in favor of a semi-recumbent driving pose. His Etta 3-speed prototype is claimed to offer users a more comfortable, natural ride whilst also providing better all-round visibility and a built-in storage compartment. Gizmag’s Paul Ridden takes a closer look…
