March 12th, 2010 admin No comments

Before the iPad and before the Slate , the most exciting touchy tablety thing in our lives was Toshiba’s JournE multimedia tablet . Now that the Japanese compu-maker has seen what the competition has on offer, it’s proudly proclaimed itself back in the running with an entire family of slate devices it’s planning to introduce near the end of 2010 or in early 2011.

How would you change Palm’s Pre Plus and Pixi Plus?

March 7th, 2010 admin No comments

We aren’t trying to lump these two together or anything, but we figured we’d give those of you who opted for Palm’s second set of webOS handsets an opportunity to pool your thoughts in order to make the smartphone landscape an even better place to survey. We personally didn’t find too much new to laud on Verizon’s Palm-branded twofer compared to the original Pre and Pixi , and those of you who were hoping for all new hardware from the company at CES were undoubtedly let down. Still, there’s something to be said about a webOS product on America’s “largest 3G network,” and frankly, we’re interested in hearing how you’d change things

Peter Misek from Canaccord Adams says that the iPad could have some components supply issues that would limit the number of units available (worldwide) at launch to 300,000 units for the month of March. According to Mr. Misek, there’s an unspecified production problem at the contracting company that manufactures the iPad for Apple: Hon Hai Precision.

JooJoo Tablet Shipping Date Delayed to March 25

February 27th, 2010 admin No comments

We published earlier this month that the JooJoo tablet (aka CrunchPad) will be shipping at the end of February. We have just received an email from the manufacturer representative stating that ” due to a manufacturing delay, the company is now forecasting that JooJoo will be sent to consumers on March 25 “. The device equipped with a 12.1″ inch capacitive display has already been available for pre-order for $499, which places it on par with Apple’s cheapest iPad and with fans claiming that the experience is better on the larger display.

TiVo has… something to announce March 2 in NYC

February 12th, 2010 admin No comments

Saying “Inventing the DVR was just a warmup” raises our expectations quite a bit for TiVo’s upcoming event in New York City. From the locked down nature of the company’s CES presence there’s definitely something in the works, but save for some leaked TiVo Premiere manuals and a curious shortage at its own store our imaginations are left wide open to assume how far we can go .

Sony Ericsson answers your nagging X10 questions, ‘newer version’ of Android will come

February 7th, 2010 admin No comments

While we all continue to twiddle our thumbs in anticipation of the X10’s general availability, Dutch site Tweakers took some time out with Sony Ericsson’s Jacob Sten to get a few pressing questions from the community answered. It’s quite a test — Sten fielded over 80 questions in all — and there were a few big takeaways that should be of interest to anyone who’s got even glancing interest in putting this thing in their pocket in the next few months.

Somy X5: basically a Sony Ericsson Pureness for a tenth the price

February 2nd, 2010 admin No comments

Here’s the thing about Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Pureness : once you get past the translucent display, there’s not much to it. Seriously — it doesn’t have 3G, a camera, hunks of precious metal, or even a fancy name to flaunt like Vertu , Dior , or Versace ; it’s just a low-end phone from a mass-market manufacturer that can’t do much other than make calls. We suppose that’s why it was so easy for a Shenzhen KIRFer to pop out this near-perfect duplicate of the Pureness — the Somy X5 — in no time.

iriver K1 Smart HD shows off unique UI for the cameras, flashes a hint of CE underneath

January 27th, 2010 admin No comments

We wouldn’t say iriver is pulling out all the stops on its new K1 Smart HD player , but it’s certainly putting a bit more love and polish into the device than we’ve seen from the company in recent months. Now a video of the UI has been unearthed, which shows a new touchscreen UI based on a sort of “circles” concept. There are smacks of a traditional grid and multi-homescreen interface as well, akin to iPhone or Android, with a bit of widget engine and exciting translucent overlays for good measure.
