Normally I don’t report on anything that STIHL does, as I’m not big on leaf blowers. However, the ad department came up with a very interesting ad campaign: a calendar that peels itself off.
You can watch a video of it after the jump, and it works by simply ripping out the book binding thread that mounts the pages together. As you can see, the pages fall like leaves. I’m guessing that you probably want to keep a garbage can, recycling bin, or compost pit underneath this wall calendar.
So far as my sources reveal, this looks like it is purely a concept. I’m guessing that it probably wouldn’t be economically feasible to market a calendar that is only good for the fall with some sort of battery-powered motor to do the whole leaf-falling thing.
There would have to be some kind of timer thing to control the falling of leaves, right? What happens if this malfunctions? I would hate to get up and find that my three-month calendar is scattered all over the floor and needs to be raked up.
That, or perhaps the timer starts dropping the leaves in fast motion, like it shows at the end of the video. That just reminds me of montage scenes in movies to show the passage of time, or the last few seconds of the Bangles “Manic Monday” video.

Instead of winging it every single time you go out drinking, now you can know for sure whether or not you’re safe to drive. This tiny gadget will accurately test your blood alcohol level, so you always know exactly where you stand. It’s only the size of a keychain, so it’d be easy to carry it around with you. It also would be a great gadget to have around if you’re constantly throwing parties and are worried about the people you send out onto the road.
The accuracy has been certified by the FDA to be +/- 0.010% blood alcohol content. The lifetime battery will last for many years even if you use it daily. It is said to be the world’s smallest and lightest alcohol tester out there. It actually weighs less than an ounce, so it won’t weigh your pockets down too much. This made in the USA product can be purchased for $69.95. You just have to pick it up from Amazon.

Have you ever seen The Incredible Hulk movie? Not that bad one starring Eric Bana with its strange editing, but the halfway decent one starring Edward Norton.
I bring it up because in the film, Dr. Banner (Norton) is about to become the Hulk, but he has some valuable information on a thumb drive. In order to protect the valuable data from his enemies and himself, he decides to swallow it. After he calms down from becoming the big green monster, he later regurgitates the thumb drive.
I’ve always wondered if someone could swallow a thumb drive, barf it up, and use it later. It would appear that we are going to find out as someone actually did this, in real life. Find out the situation after the jump.
A man named Florin Necula (sounds Transylvanian, I know) apparently had some incriminating evidence on a flash drive and decided the only way to dispose of it was to eat it. Necula was arrested for using card readers to gain magnetic strip information from cards that are inserted into ATM machines.
A few days after Necula was arrested, he finally agreed to have the information removed. Who knows how, but I’m guessing that you’ll need surgery. Yeah, I still don’t know whether you could vomit up a thumb drive. After four days, I would think that the drive would be partially digested.
In The Incredible Hulk movie, the thumb drive was in Norton and the Hulk for only a few hours, and the data could be retrieved. I believe he had the SanDisk brand, but Necula swallowed a Kingston. Let’s see if it survives.

Of all the watches I’ve come across, this is probably one of the strangest out there. It has straight forwards hands, and convenient notches to help you read the time. Really, while it is strange, it is extremely straightforward as far as reading the time goes. Which to me is perfectly fine. I wouldn’t want to deal with a watch that you can barely read on a regular basis. The big twist with this watch is that the back of it is completely clear.
It’ll show through every last one of your arm hairs. Making it even more true when you say the time is a hair past a freckle. I’m not sure that I’d want my arm featured so much that it’s the backing to my watch, but maybe you’re proud of the way your wrists look. You might have to wait a while to get your hands on one of these though. As of now they’re just a concept design by Jihun Yeom.

They duck billed platypus is such an under loved creature. Thankfully one seller is finally having mercy on the animal. Now you can show your platypus loving side with this handy USB drive. Sure, some people might think it’s silly to carry around a platypus USB drive, but they clearly just don’t know what they’re missing. This happy creature is perfectly content holding onto even the most dull documents that you need.
Of course it’s only half of a platypus instead of the whole thing. Instead of having back legs he just has a USB port. Which is tragic for him, but handy for you. The drive holds 4GB of the necessary items you need to store within it. The figurine was hand cut from hard vinyl and is covered in a clear coat of resin to give it some extra durability. You can purchase it for $35 through Etsy.

If you’re struggling to find something “original” to buy your other half this Valentines and they have a taste for caffeine and blood, how about the Blood Caffeinated Energy Potion.
Blood Caffeinated Energy Potion is the same color and consistency of real blood. It has many of the same nutrients of the rubicund liquid we love to consume (iron, protein, electrolytes, and caffeine) and has a delectable fruit punch flavor. Blood Caffeinated Energy Potion is great for the undead who need a little pick me up, without wanting to give away their “condition”. And it comes in resealable, transfusion-style pouches to remind us of the real substance we all lust for (and for fun).
Available at Think Geek for $4.99.

Lately I’ve been thinking of replacing my wall clock and going for something completely different and with this Canvas Clock that’s exactly what I’ve found. Printed onto a pretty white canvas is nothing more than a clock. However, instead of purely being an image like it initially appears, it actually tells you the current time. It’s a great way for you to have that tabletop clock look except on your wall.
The hands of the clock are the only real parts, the rest are just something printed onto the canvas. To control it and change out the batteries you just remove the canvas from the wall and work it all from the back. It only requires a single AA battery, which is of course not included. The whole thing measures 29.7 cm long. You can purchase it through Latest Buy for $36.56.

The Grammys were one gadget-filled event. When Stephen Colbert gave the award for Song of the Year, he read the nominees off of his iPad. As if we didn’t see enough of that Apple iPad last week.
What really made a techno-splash on the red carpet was UK singer Imogen Heap. Her gown was not designed by a huge and expensive fashion designer, but she claimed that this Twitter dress was her own creation.
Yes, this Twitter dress, or twitdress, is designed so she can keep up on her Twittering. You may think that her necklace looks more like a row of bullets strapped around her neck, but this keeps her updated on Twitter. Her purse is an iPhone or iPod Touch that allows her to see photos that people are sending her online.
Somehow, her dress had an internet connection, but I’m not certain I want to know where that is. As for the parasol, my source just says that it is a fashion accessory.
Considering that Imogen Heap’s fame has been the result of social media, I guess it is no wonder why she had this type of dress on.
I have to admit, I don’t really understand how fashion designers think. I will have to say that Imogen’s Heap’s outfit is “ugly”, but I can’t deny that it is practical.

It used to be that I didn’t see much point in carrying around a device that keeps track of the time since most people keep their cellphones on hand. However, there are times that it looks bad to be glancing at your phone. If you run into those situations often, but don’t actually want to wear a watch, this could be a happy medium between the two. This keychain could easily be concealed in your pocket and you can keep track of the time as well as all of your important documents.
The Too Late USB drive comes in a total of ten different colors. It’ll hold 4GB of your data, which isn’t too bad. Then it has the keyring that’ll allow for you to keep it attached to your keys if that makes things easier. It also has a small LCD screen that you can read the time on. The drive is impact resistant, which is good news for those of you that tend to drop your keys on a regular basis. Right now it’s a little difficult to find the pricing information on this USB drive, but you could always contact the retailer to find out more.
