Circadian Sleep System

August 27th, 2010 admin No comments

Can’t get to sleep, and you have just about tried all sorts of solutions to no avail? The Circadian Sleep System from Hammacher might just do the trick, since this clock will rely on both light and sound therapy in order to reset your body’s regular sleep patterns to make it a whole lot (in theory, at least) easier when it comes to falling asleep at night only to wake up with a more rejuvenated feeling in the morning. In other words, this unique sleep system will move in tandem with your body’s internal clock, where the circadian rhythm responds to light levels over the course of a 24-hour cycle, causing one to sleep or wake up. The clock will feature a light panel that relies on 70 white and 30 blue LEDs which decrease or increase in intensity to simulate dusk or dawn. In a Harvard Medical School study, blue light can immediately improve alertness in the morning – no questions there. You can also hook it into a desk lamp and dim its light at dusk and brightening it at dawn for maximum effect. Sleep and wake time intervals of 5, 15, and 30 minutes to match waxing and waning light levels with music played from its FM radio or your MP3 collection can also be programmed. Spending $249.95 to end your agony shouldn’t be worth losing sleep over, eh?

Remote Controlled Football Boots

August 27th, 2010 admin No comments

Whether you call it soccer or football, this is one strange way to burn up some time.  You can’t help but love the occasional remote control gadget, but this is probably the strangest I’ve seen.  Instead of knocking in those balls with mini players, it uses oversized shoes.  I guess either way it’ll do the trick and keep you occupied for a couple of hours.

The kit comes with 2 boots for some one on one action, as well as the necessary remote controls and a couple of nets.  The shoes have 4 hidden wheels that will allow for them to zoom across the floor.  To keep them running they’ll need 2 AA batteries, that you can purchase along with the set.  Of course along with all of the rest of the gear there is a ball to knock around between the two boots.  You can purchase the set for £ 24.95 or about $38 through Pro Idee.

Weed Whacking Golf Driver for the noncommittal golfer

August 22nd, 2010 admin No comments

Let’s face it, not all golfers are the serious types.  Some of them are just out for a day of goofing around with good friends.  Now this Weed Whacking Golf Driver might be appalling to slip into a serious game of golf (if you could even succeed at it), but for the relaxed game your buddies might even start requesting to borrow it.  After all, a little beer and a round of golf calls for a couple of short cuts throughout the game.

To work this handy little club you just flip a button and the plastic bottom flips open.  It has a single string trimmer that probably won’t work to take out any serious weeds.  If the grass is just getting a little tall it’ll work just fine for that though.  There are two thumb buttons built into the handle to activate the trimmer.  In order to keep the club powered it’ll need 6 AA batteries.  You can purchase it for $39.95 through Hammacher Schlemmer.

Tocky Alarm Clock bounces away

August 17th, 2010 admin No comments

You might remember Clocky, an alarm clock that rolls away and hides the moment it goes off.  Which leaves you to run off and chase it down before you can shut it down.  Well apparently this is Clocky’s tech saavy brother.  Instead of rolling away, this hops off of your nightstand and rolls away.  Just like Clocky you’ll be stuck chasing it down in order to make the alarm stop.

This clock even has a built-in microphone so that you can record your own sounds to wake up with.  It means college students can still wake up to the sound of their mother’s voice.  If you really don’t want to feel that close to your mother you can also upload MP3s to it.  Tocky comes in orange, aqua, kiwi and white.  For a little extra cash you can get a skin 2 pack for the clock.  You can purchase it for $79 through Nanda Home.

Strange but interesting Self-Burying Screw-In Coffin

August 17th, 2010 admin No comments

Oddly I’ve had a debate in my own mind as to what I’d want done with my remains when I die.  I have the tendency to worry that cemeteries are going to end up taking up far too much space at some point and something will have to be done.  After all, people take up about 6 feet of space, which is fine, but that adds up.  In small towns it’s not a big deal, but in cities it makes you wonder if they’ll ever have to be dug up and moved elsewhere.  That situation may take longer to come around if everyone started using these self screwing coffins.

The coffin was made to cut down on labor and the amount of space the person takes up.  A small coffin is pushed inside of the screw, then it’s just basically drilled into the earth.  It’s purely a concept design by Donald Scruggs who was awarded a handy little patent for this design.  Hopefully the design has a way that makes it difficult for random people to screw the body back out of the earth again.  The design is a little bizarre, but it’s a happy medium between being cremated and getting a traditional burial.  Plus, perhaps somehow the top of the screw could double as a headstone.

Mutewatch does show the time

August 12th, 2010 admin No comments

Although the Mutewatch may appear to either be some furturistic concept or merely something given to convicts on their way out into the free world, it’s actually a watch.  It is a fully functioning watch that will be perfectly easy to learn to use.  Not only is this ninja of a watch easy to use, but it’s actually up for sale.  That is you can at least add your name to a list of those waiting for their watch to get out of the pre-sale stage.

The Mutewatch is as silent as the name states.  It doesn’t tick away and it even has a silent alarm.  Instead of beeping out loud like a normal alarm this one just vibrates your wrist.  Then on the face of the watch it keeps things plain up until you swipe across the face to activate the screen.  These come in white, gray or even red.  You just need to pick it up for €199 or about $260.

Diamond Light Bulbs

August 7th, 2010 admin No comments

Instead of hanging up decorative lights you could just hang up a plain light with a decorative bulb.  I’m not talking about those colorful cheesy lights that start blinking once they’ve gotten hot enough.  No, instead go for an overpriced but very chic Diamond Light.  Don’t worry it’s not a light bulb made out of real diamonds or some expensive crystals.  It just happens to take the shape of a diamond.

The bulb was created by Eric Therner, but beyond that there aren’t a whole lot of details on the light.  I’m hoping the bulb is long lasting considering the price for it.  It’d be a shame to buy the bulb only to have to replace it within months with another one.  Especially when you consider that each bulb will cost you €29.00 or about $38.

Mr. Clock tells time, only when you look at it

August 2nd, 2010 admin No comments

Mr.Clock_Hye-yeon.park_Design Product_2010 RCA from hye-yeon.park on Vimeo.

We are no stranger to very cool clocks here on Coolest Gadgets. We just covered the Alessi Blank Wall Clock yesterday.

This clock is just as personal, but not in the sense that you can draw on it. As you can see in the video, the clock will only show the time when people are looking at it.

Granted, I have no idea how it knows whether or not anyone is looking at it, but it will give the correct time. If you aren’t looking at it, you will see nothing but some incongruous lines.

Mr. Clock is designed by Hye-Yeon Park, and it is supposed to be an art project. I suppose it asks the question of whether or not time happens when we are not looking at clocks. I suppose this is why we look at a clock, because without them, it is all lines.

Of course, if art asked a distinct question, and then gave the answer, would it still be art? Well, I will leave that one up to you.

Perhaps Hye-Yeon Park’s next project should be a television set that shows random patterns when you aren’t watching it. Unless you think the stuff that they show on television is random enough.

Remote Controlled Lightsaber Lights

August 2nd, 2010 admin No comments

A lightsaber just isn’t a lightsaber unless it lets off that strange glow.  Well now you can put some use to that glow by making it double as mood lighting in your bedroom.  Nothing is bound to draw in the opposite sex more than flipping off that overhead light and letting the romantic glow of the lightsabers do all the work.  If you think just one won’t do the trick you could hook up several to really finish off the room.

These 27-inch tall wall mounted lightsabers come with a remote control.  On that control you can choose between 7 different color effects, although they don’t quite specify what those effects are exactly.  To keep one of the lights up and running you’ll need 5 AAA batteries.  Those of you with children under 3 should be careful with this one since it does have a whole lot of small parts.  You can pick one up for $29.99 through the Star Wars Shop.  Although it won’t actually ship out until sometime in August.

Spy Clock helps you keep tabs at home when you’re absent in body

July 27th, 2010 admin No comments

Are you suspicious that the tap at home keeps on leaking, and the handyman who drops by is beefier than Mr. America? Well, you might want to make sure the missus isn’t two-timing you behind your back then with the help of the £79.99 Spy Clock (surely that is much cheaper than hiring a private investigator, although a device such as a Spy Clock certainly needs a whole lot more providence to catch someone in the act). This might just be one of the smartest spy gadgets around, looking pretty classy to be placed anywhere in your home while holding an almost-invisible video camera with a motion and sound detector, ready at any opportunity to snap a photo which might lead to incriminating evidence. If its 4GB capacity isn’t up to your liking, you can always expand it further with another microSD memory card. All photos can be transferred over to your computer when no one’s looking via USB.
